A Dark and Sophisticated Glam Wedding in Wakefield, Quebec

It took months for Maxime to plan how he would pop the question to Yara. “He worked hard on getting everything right, from the perfect vintage-style custom engagement ring, to the most romantic proposal—and I must say, he succeeded,” Yara shares with a smile. The surprise started off with Maxime taking Yara to her favourite hotel in Montreal, the St-James. In the middle of dinner, he whisked her off to a private room, which was filled with roses. “He even hired a photographer to capture the moment,” Yara recalls. “He had prepared a speech, but he was so nervous he could barely talk—which was just so sweet.”

Glamorous, dark and sophisticated were the key words for the couple’s wedding, with pops of merlot and plum and deep, dark florals with various textures and movement. “We wanted a very romantic vibe, but still wanted it to be edgy and unique,” Yara says.

Walking down the aisle was a favourite moment for the bride and groom. “I remember both of us just being so nervous the whole day and running around to finish up the preparations, but then as soon as I started walking down the aisle with the violinist playing and looked up and saw Maxime waiting for me with tears in his eyes, I suddenly felt so safe and relived,” Yara explains. “It made it all worth it.”

The bride had two dresses—one for the ceremony, and one for the reception. “I ordered a simple design for my main gown, but then had it customized,” Yara says. “I surprised Maxime with my second gown—we had our first dance, and decided to kind of do a reenactment of the walk down the aisle. He was waiting under the pergola outside, and all our guests had sparklers in their hands. It was magical!”
