Grace Loves Lace is the buzzy bridal label loved by It Girls for its easy, sexy and effortless vibe. Megan Ziems is founder and of the Australian-based brand and we recently chatted with her about her latest wedding collection, what’s important to brides when shopping for a dress today (it’s all about ethical fashion) and what celebrity brides are style icons who’s wedding styles should serve as inspiration for every bride.

What is currently trending with brides with shopping for the dress?
“We are seeing an increase in women caring about how dress is created and who makes the dress. Brides are recognizing such an important one-off purchase represents not only their style and personality but also their values, as it should. I believe doing your due diligence and knowing exactly where your money goes. We are so proud to ethically make our dresses in our Australian studio with our own team, where we can provide exceptional working conditions and showcase the value of investing in a production and manufacturing team highly skilled and experienced to provide an exceptional product quality. We are not looking to cut corners to increase margin. The only thing that comes before happy brides to us is HOW our dresses are made; we stand by authenticity and originality, ethical manufacturing and quality. We make-to-order which means we are not mass producing. We also have minimal carbon emissions through the fact that we design, sample, produce, and create our marketing campaign all in Australia. In terms of style, brides today are looking for comfort, natural elegance and drama. Structure is getting less popular. Beautiful fabrics, low backs, art features like exaggerated bows will are a focus now as well as skirts with volume.”

What are the design inspirations for your latest collection and where do you find inspiration for your gowns?
“I am always inspired by music and art. For some reason music always leads me. I’m inspired by the emotion and excitement, intensity and epic-ness of music. At the moment I am working on mainline 2021 and classic music mixed with rock is leading the way.”

The period between engagement and wedding is shortening. Is possible to have your dream dress in six months or less?
“YES! We offer a priority order service and because we make each gown in our own studio it means our process is controlled completely by our own team and we aim to be able to make dresses to any time frame.”

The second dress trend is a big one, but if your budget only permits one dress what are you style tips to subtly and affordably switch up the look?
“Choose a dress that HAS the ability to create a few looks. We have a few gowns in our 2020 lineup designed with this in mind where you can switch up strap and arm band options. We have another gown called Izabel which features a detachable lace sarong over a mini dress. If switching up your dress isn’t an option, you can change up your looks with your earrings and throw on one of our hair accessories to easily go from ceremony to reception/after party.”

What are the must have bridal accessories for 2020?
“A statement pair of earrings and white sneakers to wear toward the end of the night. We have launched a pair of buttery soft white leather sneakers and they are the most comfortable, classic pair to wear and be able to throw off your heels.”

What celebrity has had amazing wedding style? Name a few of your all-time favourites please!
“Kate Moss, Bar Rafaeli, Margherita Missoni and Hailey Bieber.”

Finish this statement: “You know you have found your perfect dress when….
“…it makes you feel something special.”
